How to Prepare a Live Startup Pitch at an AI Expo in Dubai

A practical guide for AI founders preparing a short live pitch on an expo stage: choosing one message, structuring five to fifteen minutes, demoing safely, handling questions and following up with the people who were in the room.

A pitch on an expo stage is a different exercise from a pitch in an investor's meeting room. The audience is mixed, the time is fixed, the room is busy and nobody has read your deck in advance. Founders who treat it as a shortened investor meeting tend to rush through too many slides. Founders who treat it as a short talk with one clear message, and a clear next step, usually leave with better conversations.

This guide is for AI founders preparing a live pitch at World AI Expo Dubai, which takes place on 7 and 8 April 2027 at the Millennium Plaza Downtown Hotel, from 11:00 to 20:00 each day. Startup pitching slots there run from a 5-minute keynote session to a 15-minute one, or a 30-minute panel discussion, depending on the package. If you want help with the investor deck and due diligence that come later, our separate guide on pitching an AI startup to investors covers that ground.

Decide what the pitch is for before you write it

Every live pitch should have one primary purpose. For some founders it is meeting investors who are open to a follow-up call. For others it is finding a first enterprise pilot, a distribution partner in the Gulf, or senior hires. The purpose shapes everything else: which problem you lead with, which proof you show and what you ask the audience to do at the end.

Write the purpose as a single sentence, then write the one thing you want people to remember about your company in a second sentence. If those two sentences do not fit together, simplify until they do. A five-minute slot has room for one idea, told well, and very little else.

Match the structure to the length of your slot

Short pitches work best with a simple frame: the problem, who has it, what you built, the evidence that it works, and the ask. In five minutes, spend about a minute on the problem and the customer, two minutes on the product and evidence, and the last minute on why now and what you want from the room. Seven minutes lets you add one customer story. Ten to fifteen minutes gives room for a short live demonstration and a clearer explanation of your approach.

Resist the urge to fill longer slots with more slides. Use the extra time to slow down, give one concrete example and leave a pause before the ask. If your package is a panel discussion rather than a keynote, prepare two or three short answers that carry the same message, because a panel rewards concise, specific contributions rather than a prepared speech.

Lead with the customer problem, not the model

Expo audiences include enterprise buyers, investors, founders and technical specialists, and they all understand problems faster than architectures. Open with the situation your customer is in, described in their own terms, and the cost of leaving it unsolved. Then explain what your product does about it in one or two plain sentences.

Technical depth still matters, but it should support the story rather than lead it. Mention the parts of your approach that are genuinely distinctive, such as access to a particular type of data, a workflow you understand unusually well or an evaluation method that shows the product is reliable. Avoid broad claims about what AI will do in general, and describe what your product does today, for whom, and how you know.

Show evidence that holds up to questions

Evidence is what separates a memorable pitch from a pleasant one. Useful evidence for an early-stage AI company includes paying customers or signed pilots, usage that is growing, a measured improvement in a customer's workflow, or a strong result on an evaluation the audience can understand. Choose the one or two pieces that best support your purpose and explain them clearly.

Only use numbers you can explain in a follow-up conversation. If a figure comes from a small pilot, say so. If a result depends on a particular setup, mention it. Experienced listeners respect founders who are precise about what has and has not been proven yet, and that precision makes the follow-up conversation easier.

Demo safely or not at all

A short live demonstration can be the most persuasive part of a pitch, but only if it works on the day. Venue networks can be busy and stage screens can behave differently from your laptop. Keep the demo to a single task that shows the value in under a minute, and prepare a recorded version you can switch to without comment if anything goes wrong.

Test your slides and video on the event's screen format during rehearsal if you can, use large text and keep each slide readable from the back of the room. In a five- or seven-minute slot, a few well-chosen screenshots are often a safer choice than a live demo.

Rehearse to time and prepare for questions

Rehearse out loud, with a timer, at least five times before the event, and once in front of someone who does not know your company. Most first drafts run long, and cutting is easier when you can hear which parts lose the listener. Aim to finish slightly under your allotted time so there is room for a natural close.

List the ten questions you are most likely to be asked and prepare a short answer to each. Typical questions cover who pays and why, how you compete with larger providers in general terms, how you handle data privacy, what it costs to run the product, and what you will do with new funding. Keep answers short and honest, and offer to continue the conversation afterwards when a question deserves more time.

Handle the practical requirements early

Pitching slots are subject to selection and approval. Applications are reviewed by the organiser, and selection is not guaranteed. Speakers and presenters at events in Dubai may also need approval from the relevant authority, so the organiser asks for speaker documents about one month before the event. Submit them on time, and check that the name and title on your documents match the way you will be introduced.

Plan your two days around the slot rather than only the slot itself. Confirm when you are on stage, arrive early to meet the stage team, and keep the rest of your schedule free for conversations with people who heard you. Bring short, simple material that repeats your one-sentence message and your ask, and a way for people to book a follow-up quickly.

Follow up while the pitch is still fresh

The pitch opens doors; the follow-up decides what happens next. Within two working days, send a short personal note to everyone who asked for a conversation, referring to what they said or asked. Include a link to a concise deck or one-page summary, and propose a specific time to talk.

Afterwards, review the pitch honestly with your team: which parts landed, which questions surprised you and which conversations led to real next steps. A live pitch at an AI expo should be judged on the quality of the conversations it produces rather than the size of the audience, and that review is what makes the next pitch better.

Key takeaways

  • Give the pitch one purpose, such as investor follow-ups, a first pilot or a regional partner, and one message people will remember.
  • Fit the structure to the slot: World AI Expo Dubai pitching packages range from a 5-minute to a 15-minute keynote session, or a 30-minute panel discussion.
  • Lead with the customer problem, then show the product and one or two pieces of evidence you can explain in detail.
  • Keep any live demo to one short task and have a recorded fallback ready.
  • Rehearse to time and prepare short, honest answers to the ten most likely questions.
  • Submit speaker documents about a month ahead, and follow up with every interested contact within two working days.

No. A pitch creates visibility and conversations. Whether those lead to investment, pilots or partnerships depends on the fit and on the follow-up after the event.

The customer problem, what your product does about it, one or two pieces of evidence, why now, and a clear ask. Spend roughly one minute on the problem, two on the product and evidence, and one on the ask.

Only if it shows value in under a minute and you have a recorded fallback. In shorter slots, a few clear screenshots are often the safer choice.

Yes. Pitching slots are subject to speaker and presenter approval and applicable event requirements, including approval by the relevant Dubai authority where applicable. Speaker documents should be submitted about one month before the event.
